Garbage Guru City of Sydney's ultimate guide to recycling and disposing of stuff.

It's complicated
Items made of composite materials (for example, containing both plastic and paper) are difficult to recycle. Disposable coffee cups usually have a plastic coating which makes them a composite item. It’s hard to tell if your coffee cup is recyclable, but chances are, it’s not. Coffee cups in your yellow bin at home are more likely to be a contaminant so put them in the red bin. What to do with the lid is a little more straightforward. Coffee cup lids are almost always made of plastic and can be recycled. The best way to ditch this dilemma? Opt for a reusable coffee cup.
Did you know?
Reusable coffee cups are the best. I love sipping my latte from a glass one.
