Garbage Guru City of Sydney's ultimate guide to recycling and disposing of stuff.

  • Donate to a charity

Charities will accept items in good condition you don’t want or need anymore. Put them in your local Collection Bin or give them over the counter. Some charities offer a pick-up service – visit Smith Family, Salvos, Vinnies for more info.

  • Or you could ...

  • Fridge Buyback

Fridge Buyback provides free collection of working second fridges or upright freezers that have been in regular use and are 200 litres (or more) in size. The appliances collected are professionally degassed and the metals recycled.

Call 1800 708 401 or visit their website for more info.

  • Donate to the Bower

If you have household furniture, bikes, kitchenware, books, working appliances or small amounts of building materials that you no longer want, call The Bower on 02 9568 6280 to see if they can take your donation. They offer a free collection service for City of Sydney residents. If they can’t take your goods they’ll refer you to someone who will.

  • Post on Freecycle

Give away your stuff for free on Freecycle.

  • Put it on Gumtree

For anything you no longer want, use or need, put it up for sale or give it away on Gumtree.
